Monday 26th April to Friday 30th April - "Bible Exhibition"

In association with the Open Air Mission we are running an exhibtion entitled "A walk through thge Bible" for local schools.
The exhibition comprises 18 display boards on which pictures of the Bible, from Genesis, right through the Old Testament, to the Ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ in the New Testament book of Acts.  The stories are brought to life by people dressed up as various Bible characters, and linked together by a narrator.

The themes covered include: creation, the fall, the flood, the tower of Babel, Israel’s journey from slavery to the Promised Land, the Judges, the Kings, the Prophets, and the birth, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus.  Exciting stories of Noah and the Ark, David and Goliath, Daniel in the lion’s den, and, of course, the wonderful message of who Jesus is, and why He came into our world are told.

Church members portrait characters in costume from a wide range which including, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Miriam, Moses, David, Daniel, Elijah, Mary the Mother of Jesus, John the Baptist and Mary Magdalene.  Having seen the exhibition, the children then get to answer questions on a simple worksheet, by looking at the display boards.  This helps to reinforce what they have heard.  It’s a most amazing journey!

Over 250 school children attended this exhibition!

Wednesday 28th April 2010 19:45 - "The Friendly Garden Robin"

A lecture by ornithologist David Tideswell

David is an ornithologist and is well-known as a speaker and lecturer on birds.

Based in Uttoxeter, East Staffordshire, he has a regular slot answering questions on Stuart George's programme on BBC Radio Stoke. If there's anything you ever needed to know about our feathered friends-David's your man.

Born and bred in Staffordshire, David was raised in the Peak District village of Wooton.
His interest in wildlife developed at a young age thanks to encouragement from his parents, and then at school.  Later he followed up his interest with courses at Keele University.

A gathering of over 80 people attended the talk on "The Friendly Garden Robin" by ornithologist David Tideswell.  Proceeds from the event went to the Kenyan Orphan Project (KOP).  KOP was started in 2001 by 3 medical students with the vision to fight against poverty, disease, social exclusion and injustice and to help improve the lives of orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya.  One of our members, Alison Ridal, who is a medical student at Nottingham University, is actively supporting one segment of the project concerned with provision of food, feeding staff and income generating activities at orphan nutrition centre.  The evening raised nearly £300 towards the work of KOP.  Further information on KOP may be found at
